The baseball team at ECHS hadn’t played since March 28 in Gardnerville against Whittell until they faced non-league opponent White Pine JV at home on April 11.

Eureka got valuable game time after such a long wait between games and had many positives to take into the teeth of their league schedule after beating the Bobcats 16-6

Both Eureka and White Pine used the game as a chance to get some younger players valuable game time and try them out of their normal positions.

Eureka coach David Hicks said, “Both teams had a chance to play their younger kids and both teams played fantastic.”

Hicks went on to add, “We hit and fielded the ball pretty well against White Pine and came out with the win.”

Most importantly, the Vandals got back out on the field in real game scenarios which hopefully hones their skills before the remainder of their league schedule arrives.

Eureka was supposed to take on Wells in an important league double-header on Tuesday, April 14, but the weather didn’t quite agree with their plans. The snowy conditions led to the cancellation of the league double-header with a late April re-schedule date as a consequence. An exact date has not been set, but an update will be made available when a date is decided.

Eureka will play a league double-header at home against Mineral County this Saturday at 10 a.m. and noon.
