Eureka wrestler Wyatt Gibbs gets a take down in the Sierra Nevada Classic in Reno. Gibbs went 4-2 in the highly touted tournament.

The Eureka wrestling program has had a few tournaments under their belts as of late and looks to continue to get better as the season progresses.

Senior Wyatt Gibbs has been the only Vandal wrestler to compete for a couple of tournaments. Gibbs won the Mustang Invitational in Lovelock at 195 pounds.

Gibbs also wrestled in a nationally renowned tournament in The Sierra Nevada Classic in Reno over the holidays. This tournament had 90 teams total and 54 in Gibbs’ weight class. The Eureka Wrestler did a great job going 4-2 in the tournament where some of the best wrestlers in the country go to compete.

This past weekend, Eureka had all three of its wrestlers compete. Gibbs won the 195 pound weight class at in Alamo. Freshman Garrett Todd placed 4th in the 120 pound weight class and Thomas Buccat did not place.

The Vandals will travel to Spring Creek this weekend to compete in a tournament on Jan. 15 and 16.
