It was a banner day for Eureka’s Mikel Lacovara last Friday against the White Pine JV team.

Lacovara almost hit for the cycle in leading the Vandals to a 26-18 victory. He singled and tripled in the first inning, doubled in the second and singled again in the fourth.

Eureka collected 25 hits and White Pine had 12 in the high scoring affair.

The Vandals batted around in the first inning, hammering White Pine starter Jeff Doty for 17 runs on 17 hits in his 3-and-a third innings, including 10 runs on eight hits the first inning.

Bryson Wells earned the victory for Eureka. He allowed one hit and one run over two innings. He was also the leading batter going five-for-six at the plate. Landry went four-for-five, Lacovara was four-for-four and Wyatt Anderson three-for-four.

Two Bobcats pitchers relieved Doty on the mound, throwing one-and- two-thirds and two innings respectively.

Wells was relieved by Shane Lacovara and C.W. Landry did not do as well as they gave up 14 runs on 11 hits in the following five innings.

League play started again for Eureka on Wednesday this week. They played Carlin. On Saturday this week, the boys travel to Wells for league action.

In the meantime, the Lady Vandals have not had any softball action since March 30. They also were to play Carlin on Wednesday this week, then have a non-league double-header with Oasis Academy in Fallon on Friday, and go to Wells for league play on Saturday.
