Vandals season comes to an end

The Vandals baseball team wrapped up the season last weekend with a couple of losses to Carlin and Wells. Assistant coach Ken Sanders said, it was a close score at Carlin until about the fourth inning and a lightning storm suspended play for half an hour. Afterwards, the Railroaders put some numbers up on the board and won the game 11-7. “That kind of took the energy out of our kids, and we committed several errors, which didn’t help,” Sanders said. The game with Wells was a 7-0 loss. “The Leopards came out strong and it was a day we just couldn’t hit the ball much,” Sanders said. “And when we did hit the Neither team had many hits. Wells only had three and Eureka had four. But the Vandals hurt themselves committing six errors. While not making the playoffs this year, finishing behind Wells and Mineral County, the Vandals still had a good season with a mark of 12-6 Sanders said. “It was a great season, although I wish it could have lasted a little longer. At the same time I think we advanced a lot more than many people thought we might having lost three players to graduation off last year’s team.” And they did split the league series with both Wells and Carlin. Eureka losses two seniors from this year’s team, Josh Garcia and Kolton Anderson,...

Lady Vandals drop doubleheader

Losing a pair of games to Mineral County last week was somewhat disappointing because of the good progress the team has been making of late, said coach Briana Brown, especially the second one. “We had a 7-6 lead in that one, but they got some good hits and ended up beating us. That was our best game so far. The girls continue to do well and improve, putting the pieces together and play as a team.” Brown said, “Our bats were a little slow in the first game, although we did make some good plays.” In the first game,...

Vandals fall at home to Mineral County

Mineral County won both games last week with Eureka 11-4 and 14-1. “We did good in the first game,” Vandal coach Kia Davis said, “but in the second game we just never came out to play. We just made too many errors.” In the first game the teams passed the lead back-and-forth, but eventually Mineral County prevailed by scoring a run for a 5-4 lead in the fourth inning on a wild pitch by Vandal pitcher Gavin Denshire. The Serpents then four more runs in the seventh inning thanks to a walk and three batters being hit by a...
