BLM Mojave-Southern Great Basin advisory council to meet

August 12, 2013 by Eureka Sentinel Leave a Comment

The Mojave-Southern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council (RAC) recreation subcommittee will meet Friday, Aug. 16, and Thursday, Aug. 29, at the BLM Southern Nevada District Office, 4701 N. Torrey Pines Dr., in Las Vegas. Both meetings will begin at 9 a.m.

The RAC advises and makes recommendations to the BLM on public land management.  The Recreation Subcommittee makes recommendations to the RAC on recreation issues.  Items for discussion on Aug. 16 will include, but are not limited to, an overview of the recreation subgroup and prioritization of Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) and recreation-related topics for future discussion.  Items for discussion on Aug. 29 will include, but are not limited to, discussion of OHV and recreation-related topics as prioritized at the previous meeting.  The meetings are open to the public and provide an opportunity to make comments to the citizen-based council. A public comment period is scheduled at 10 a.m.

The Federal Land Policy and Management Act directs the Secretary of the Interior to involve the public in planning and discussion of issues related to management of BLM-administered public lands.  The Mojave-Southern Great Basin RAC is one of three such councils in Nevada that accommodate this community participation directive. Represented on the council are commercial and non-commercial users including environmental, livestock, mining, Native American, and wild horse and burro interests and elected officials and state agencies.

For more information, contact Chris Hanefeld, BLM Ely District Office public affairs specialist, at (775) 289-1842 or chanefel@blm.gov.
