The Battle Mountain District, Mount Lewis Field Office plans to conduct prescribed burning activities in the Seven Mile Hazardous Fuels Project, located about 40 miles southwest of Eureka during the months of November and December, 2013.
Smoke may be visible in Eureka, Antelope Valley and along Highway 50. The intent of the project is to burn 373 to 870 acres within the Cabin Unit. The goals of the project are to reduce the severity of possible wildland fires, provide a safer suppression environment and improve rangeland health and productivity by reducing pinyon and juniper tree encroachment.
Ignition operations will be intermittent to allow for adequate smoke dispersal and burning will not occur on every day during the burn window. The prescribed burn is highly dependent on weather conditions and fuel parameters and may be postponed until a window of acceptable prescriptive conditions opens.
Signs will be posted along Highway 50 on days when burning will take place.
