Graduating seniors awarded scholarship

Established in 2009, the Harold L. Drimmer/Mt. Hope Educational Foundation awards scholarships to Eureka County graduating seniors. 2015 marks the 7th consecutive year of this prized program. This foundation has awarded more than $85,000 in scholarships since its inception and this year awarded one academic scholarship and one career and technical education scholarship; each scholarship award is for $5,000.

This year, the academic scholarship was awarded to Eureka County High School class valedictorian Crystal Hubbard. She will study Elementary Education at the University of Nevada, Reno. The vocational/technical scholarship was awarded to Dwight Hoof, who is also graduating from Eureka County High School. He will enroll in the Maintenance Training Cooperative Program at Great Basin College.

We are proud to support advanced education opportunities and wish these two recipients and all of the graduating Eureka County seniors the best of luck in their future endeavors.

This educational foundation is named in honor of Harold L. Drimmer, who purchased the Mt. Hope mining claims in 1968. The foundation is funded 50percent by Mt. Hope Mines, Inc. (owner of the Mt. Hope mining claims), and 50 percent by Eureka Moly, LLC (developer of the Mt. Hope Mine).

This foundation was established to provide educational assistance each year to students selected from the pool of applicants. General Moly’s Mt. Hope project will provide substantial economic growth to the region and is committed to contributing financially to the communities in which they operate. Priorities for contributions are: education, social services, and community development.

Moreover, we support education as we provide employment opportunities for a wide range of positions requiring technical and professional skills. Drimmer also recognized the value of education as he was the salutatorian at his high school in New York and attended Harvard graduating magna cum laude. This shared belief in the value of education and in providing opportunities to our communities’ youth, resulted in the creation of this scholarship program. The funding for this foundation will eventually grow to $1 million and will support annual awards for many years.
