The Eureka County High volleyball team played a home contest against McDermitt this past Friday at the Eureka Fieldhouse and picked up a pair of wins.

The Lady Vandals and Lady Bulldogs played two matches in a best of three format. In the first match, Eureka got off to a fast start winning in two games with scores of 25-14 and 25-21 to win the match.

McDermitt gave more of a fight in the second match, but ultimately was dealt the same fate by the Lady Vandals. Eureka took the second match also with scores of 25-12, lost the second 25-20 and won the deciding game 25-3.

Elsie Etchegaray had a great day with 12 kills and 18 digs leading Eureka to an important league win. The entire team played together and had some great rallies in which they never gave up on to ultimately will the Lady Vandals to a home win.

On Saturday the Lady Vandals traveled to White Pine to play in a non-league game. It was a best of five match and White Pine took the first three games to win the match. The Lady Vandals lost with scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-12.

Although Eureka lost, this doesn’t affect Eureka as White Pine is in a different division being a bigger school. It did serve as good experience and playing time as playoffs are approaching rather quickly. According to, Eureka is third in their division and are in position to make the playoffs as of now.

Eureka will play a very important volleyball match this Friday starting at 3 p.m. (Junior Varsity) and 4 p.m. (Varsity) against league leader Wells for their homecoming.
