The 2016 Eureka County High softball team traveled south to Alamo this past weekend playing four games in two days to start their season.
They started out the tourney beating Beaver Dam 16-1 and 18-6 in two games. Eureka then played a perennial state title contender in Pahranagat Valley. Oddly Eureka lost 12-2 in the first matchup against the Lady Panthers, but came back in the second game and won 14-4.
Eureka coach Mary Jane Hodson was pleased with her team’s resilience as they shrugged off the previous defeat to beat Pahranagat Valley in the second game.
“Girls are starting to play good, solid ball and we are hoping to build confidence off the win against Alamo,” Hodson said.
Eureka has a talented team with a shot to do some big things in its division as they have six seniors who are undoubtedly the leaders and core of the team. The Lady Vandals will hit the field again this weekend in another tournament in Virginia City after starting the season 3-1.
