The season came to a screeching halt for the Eureka County High football team on Saturday as the Vandals dropped their playoff game to Virginia City 54-0.
Eureka couldn’t contain the Virginia City rushing attack from the opening kick. Mucker senior running back Sam Strahan ran the ball eight times for 142 yards and four touchdowns to lead his squad.
The Muckers jumped out to a commanding 24-0 lead after the first quarter and led 38-0 at the half. Eureka was held scoreless for the first time all season.
The Vandals finished the season 5-5 overall and 4-1 in 1A Northern East Conference.
Virginia City will play Spring Mountain at home on Friday in the state semifinals.
