induction into the Eureka County High School Athletics Hall of Fame.

Eureka County High School inducted two very special men on Jan. 19 into the ECHS Athletic Hall of Fame as inaugural members.  Elmer Porter, ECHS Athletics Director said, “this is the first time the school has done anything like this.”  Grant Crutchley and Jim Ithurralde were honored during the program as individuals who have contributed and supported the ECHS athletic program, noting that each possess the character and values that exemplify the true meaning of ECHS athletics.

Crutchley is a longtime coach and teacher at the high school.  He coached several sports teams during his time at Eureka including football, basketball, both boys and girls and track.  Crutchley Field, the current football and track facility is named after Grant Crutchley.  During his coaching tenures, the girls basketball team won two state championships. He also drove a route bus for athletic events, was the principal at the high school, is a Vietnam veteran and was elected to NIAA Hall of Fame in 1999 as a Nevada state coach and athlete.

Ithurralde grew up around Eureka and attended Eureka School. He graduated from ECHS in 1960, served as county assessor for several years before becoming a commissioner and has been an announcer for Vandal athletics for several years being named the “Voice of the Vandals.”  Ithurralde has also been very active in the ECHS Alumni association, where he created the “E” list of past outstanding alumni at the high school.   Porter said “Ithurralde is a huge athletic supporter for all sports at ECHS and all of the school in Eureka County.”

“Congratulation to Grant and Jim and we thank them for their years of service to the Vandal athletics, we will continue to honor others in the future,” Porter said.
