New Voting Machines to Be Used in Eureka Primaries

Primary elections in Eureka County this year will have something new – updated secure electronic voting equipment.

According to an article in the Eureka County Commission newsletter, the primary on June 12 will be the first time county voters will be using the new machines.

The county purchased the equipment with assistance of a grant made possible by Assembly Bill 519 of the 2017 state legislative session.

Electronic voting equipment was used in Eureka County in 2004.

The updated equipment will be used in all ballots, including precincts 3 and 4.

As noted in the article, “the new equipment uses a touch screen tablet along with a paper printer to verify the vote cast.

Answering questions that have been raised, the article stated the voting system is the equipment used to create ballots, cast and count votes, and display elections results.

“Nevada’s voting system is a “stand-alone” system and is not connected to a network or to the internet and does not have wireless connection capabilities. Before any component can be used in Nevada’s voting system, it must first go through a series of tests and audits. Additionally, each component maintains a chain of custody with tamper-resistant security seals and access limited to authorized personnel.”

County Clerk Beverly Conley said the deadline for voter registration, if necessary, for mail-in votes is on or before Tuesday. May. 15.

Early voting at the courthouses will be allowed May 26-June 8, closed Memorial Day, May 28 and on Sundays.

A Nevada DMV issued photo ID card or driver’s license is required for new registrations. Additional proof will be required if the current address is not indicated on the ID. If you do not possess a Nevada DMV issued photo ID card or driver’s license, you may register by providing the last four digits of your Social Security Number. A Nevada DMV issued photo ID card or driver’s license is required. Eligible voters may register or update their voter registration online at: nvsos.gov on or before: THURSDAY, MAY 24, 2018.

The Eureka County Clerk’s office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Extended hours on May 21 and May 22 are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
