Tao Receives Two Endorsements

Nevada State Appellate Court Judge Jerry Tao received the endorsement of the Las Vegas Asian Chamber of Commerce and the National Rifle Association in the race for Nevada Supreme Court, Seat C.

Judge Tao earned the chamber endorsement due to his strong support of all businesses in Nevada, especially those owned and operated by members of the Asian Pacific-American community. Judge Tao is the first Asian American to serve on Nevada Court of Appeals and, if elected, would be the first Asian American to sit on the state’s Supreme Court.

“The Las Vegas Asian Chamber of Commerce is proud to endorse Jerry Tao for Nevada Supreme Court,” said Las Vegas Asian Chamber of Commerce President Sonny Vinuya. “Judge Tao has represented our community with distinction on the bench on the District and Appeals Courts and we urge Nevadans to get behind his campaign.”

“I am truly honored to receive the endorsement of the Las Vegas Asian Chamber of Commerce,” stated Judge Tao. “I was born in Taiwan to Chinese parents, who came to the United States because of their respect for our nation, and our fidelity to the Constitution and our rule of law. I am honored to have the support of so many like my parents in the Asian Community, and I will continue to uphold the great legal traditions of the United States.”

He received the NRA endorsement due to his strong support of the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which provides lawful protections for law-abiding citizens to bear arms. The Constitution of the State of Nevada also guarantees the same right for our citizen.

National Rifle Association endorsements are reserved for the most courageous defenders of the Second Amendment, for candidates who have not only an excellent record on all critical NRA issues, but who have also made a vigorous effort to promote and defend the Second Amendment.

“I am truly honored to receive the endorsement of the National Rifle Association,” stated Judge Tao. “As both a District Court Judge and current Appellate Court Judge, I strive to strictly adhere to the text of our Nevada Constitution and the U.S. Constitution to faithfully carry out my duties as a jurist, not as some form or policymaker or legislator. Should I be fortunate to be elected the next Justice of the Nevada Supreme Court, I will continue to apply the laws of this state, rather than try to create them. That is what I believe Nevadans want and deserve in a fair and impartial court.”

Judge Tao was first appointed to the District Court in 2011 by Governor Brian Sandoval. As a District Court Judge, he earned a retention rating of 86 percent in the December 2013 Las Vegas Review-Journal “Judging the Judges” survey, which was the fourth-highest score among the 32 judges in the civil-criminal division of the Eighth Judicial District. In November 2014, Judge Tao was re-elected to the District Court in a landslide, winning more than 67 percent of the vote.

One month later, Judge Tao was appointed once again by Governor Sandoval to serve as one of the first three judges to sit on the state’s newly-created Appellate Court. He is the most experienced judicial candidate for Supreme Court in Nevada’s history, having presided over thousands of cases at both the district and appellate court level.

The Las Vegas Asian Chamber of Commerce represents hundreds of Nevadans and business owners. Judge Tao has also been endorsed by the Clark County Prosecutors Association, the National Rifle Association, the Nevada Firearms Coalition, Nevada Right to Life, Attorney General Adam Laxalt, and many other prominent figures in Nevada’s legal community.
