Polar Express Returns to Ely

Special to the Sentinel

The Polar Express children’s tale comes to life in as families make the unforgettable journey to the North Pole to meet Santa Claus. The Nevada Northern Railway Museum creates an enchanted experience for boys and girls of all ages aboard the Polar Express, in celebration of the holiday season. The first Polar Express train is scheduled to board Friday.

Recreating the original Polar Express children’s book, written by Chris Van Allsburg, guests are invited to wear their pajamas as they ride the night train, pulled by a vintage diesel locomotive, to the North Pole.

Polar Express passengers will enjoy hot cocoa and cookies, meet Santa’s helpers, listen to the children’s tale of the Polar Express and sing songs from the movie on the journey to finally meet the jolly guy, himself.

“It’s a really magical experience, seeing the kids overjoyed when they finally meet Santa Claus as he boards the Polar Express and gifts each child a silver bell taken from the harness of his magic reindeer, just like in the classic children’s story,” said Mark Bassett, president of the Northern Nevada Railway Museum.

“This is a family holiday experience unlike any other – where else can you be transported to the North Pole and back, all in one day?”

The Nevada Northern Railway Polar Express runs on select dates in November and December and advanced reservations are highly recommended as tickets often sell out. Tickets are $42 for adults, $25 for children age four to 12, and free for children under four.

Visit www.nnry.com for a complete schedule, rates and to make a reservation, or call the Nevada Northern Railway Museum at 775-289-2085.
