Multiple emergency agencies responded to a collision involving two semi-trucks on Interstate 80 Wednesday morning, Jan. 28.
At approximately 10:00 a.m., Eureka County Dispatch received reports of a crash at Mile Marker 256, located near the Dunphy exit. Responding units included deputies from the Eureka County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO), the Nevada State Police (NSP), and fire crews from Crescent Valley and Beowawe. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) from both Eureka and Lander counties also arrived on the scene.
Officials confirmed that one semi-truck driver sustained injuries in the accident and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The collision involved two commercial vehicles carrying significantly different cargoes. One truck was hauling sodium bicarbonate—commonly known as baking soda—while the second was transporting guacamole and various other food products. In a lighthearted clarification to a common question, officials noted that despite the abundance of guacamole, there were no tortilla chips found in the trailer.
The cause of the collision is currently under investigation by the Nevada State Police.
