Mt. Wheeler Power is offering a scholarship opportunity to local seniors on track to graduate high school in 2026 within the Mt. Wheeler Power service territories. Interested students are expected to create an impact speech demonstrating how they intend to power their community.
The scholarship is divided into three stages. The first stage includes application questions. Stage two includes the applicant creating an impact speech. The impact speech includes details about how the applicant impacts the community. The speech can be submitted via a 400 to 550-word document submitted as a PDF or Word document, or a two- to three-minute-long video submitted as an mp4. Applicants must be on video. Both impact speech formats must be original content.
Applicants who score high for the first two stages move to stage three, which includes an interview. The interview can be live or virtual, offering the applicant a better opportunity to show their personality, expand on their original pitch and have the opportunity to answer questions about future aspirations.
Applications are evaluated on the standards of community impact, alignment with cooperative values, communication and clarity and authenticity and originality. Applicants who provide a meaningful contribution to the community, demonstrate leadership, cooperation and concern for the community, express ideas concisely and create original work are invited to apply.
Students interested in applying are encouraged to submit their application and pitch electronically to ChristinaS@mwpower.org with the subject line: 2026 Scholarship Application – [Your Full Name].
The application deadline is April 2. Interview notifications will be sent on April 9, and interviews will be held the week of April 20.
