Nevada Health Centers (NVHC) has announced that its mobile mammography unit, the Mammovan, will visit Ely and Eureka this April to provide essential breast cancer screenings to local residents.
Early detection remains a critical factor in the fight against breast cancer, making accessible screening services vital for rural communities. The Mammovan, which has been traversing the state since 2000, aims to eliminate barriers to care for women across Nevada.
Event details
The Mammovan will be available at the following locations:
- Ely: Tuesday, April 14, from 7:40 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. near the Duckpond on Clark Street.
- Eureka: Wednesday, April 15, from 7:40 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. at the Eureka County Medical Center, located at 250 South Main Street.
Scheduling and eligibility
Screenings are primarily intended for women aged 40 and older. However, women under 40 may receive a screening if they have a referral from a healthcare provider.
To schedule an appointment, residents are encouraged to call 1.877.581.6266 (option 1).
Insurance and cost
Nevada Health Centers accepts Medicare, Medicaid, and most major private insurance plans. As part of its mission to provide quality healthcare regardless of economic status, NVHC also offers a sliding-fee discount program based on income and family size. Thanks to donor support, the cost of screenings may be covered for those in need.
About the mammovan
The Mammovan program was launched over 25 years ago through a grant secured by former First Lady of Nevada Dema Guinn and former Congressman John Ensign. It is one of five mobile programs operated by NVHC, a non-profit Federally Qualified Health Center that has served the state since 1977.
