Abby Sweet, the local preschool through 12th grade art teacher for Eureka County, holds a monthly community paint night at the Lani and Repetto Dance Hall for everyone. Her love of art and flourishing others’ creativity began in 2017, but she began hosting the monthly Paint Nights more consistently in 2022. Sweet typically guides anywhere from 15 to 30 people in these classes, teaching them new techniques.
“I’ve had kids as young as three to senior citizens and all ages in between,” Sweet shared. Her classes are open to anyone from any age and skill level, welcoming everyone to explore their creativity.
When it comes to class themes, “I choose themes by finding inspiration online or come up with original ideas,” Sweet said. “Nature and animals are repeating themes.” She not only attempts to educate attendees on art techniques but provides information on the theme too.
In a recent Paint Night held Jan. 23, guests were invited to paint a lucky fish and learn more about the Lunar New Year – Year of the Snake. In this class, guests learned how to paint on black canvas as opposed to typical white canvas and experimented in a different art form.
