With delicious food vendors, live music and rodeo shenanigans, the Eureka County Fair and Rodeo bustled over the weekend of Aug. 7-10.
Hundreds of county fairgoers participated in a weekend-long itinerary full of rodeo competitions with free entry. The fair included a rodeo, concert performances, 4-H livestock show and youth team branding. The Eureka County Fairgrounds welcomed entertainment for all visitors.
Thursday
Festivities began Aug. 8 with the 4-H Livestock Show l at 8:30 a.m. and a livestock sale following closely after at 1 p.m. The Youth Rough Stock happened soon after at 6 p.m. Sheep rider winners included Henzley Allen in first, Kashton Barton in second, Wyatt Barton in third and Evalynn Uhalde in fourth place. Calf rider winners were as follows: Reid Benson in first place, Tucker Trevino in second, Chett Conley in third and Rial Coates in fourth place. Steer rider winners were Jace Barto in first, Emmett Gorecki in second and Samuel Victor in third.
Friday
The flag presentation and the National Anthem commenced at 9:45 a.m., opening the Eureka High School Rodeo Club. The youth team branding also began at 10 a.m. Winners of the 7 to 10 age group were “Flying Nevada #1” with Andree Jo Morrison in first place, “Team Bliss” with Hadley Bliss in second place, “Secret Service” with Louie Venturacci in third and “Lazy Reverse Spiked S” with Marvel Sestanovich in fourth place. The 11 to 14 age group winners were Charlee Sestanovich in first place, “KO Team” with Kayce Osterhoudt in second, Arrow H Ranch’s Frankie Buchanan in third and Nic’s Team – Nic Bliss in fourth place. Friday closed with a cornhole tournament to seal the night of rodeo fun.
Saturday
Mud volleyball commenced at 9 a.m., with a Scrabble tournament at 9:30. The flag presentation and National Anthem were then led by the Eureka High School Rodeo Club. Team branding followed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The horseshoe tournament and jackpot team branding started at 2 p.m. The team branding women’s team winners included the “Carico Girls,” Kaylee Filippini, Lindy Norcutt, Brynn Lehman and Andrea Sestanovich in first place; team “I Don’t Know,” Allie Ross, Katie Ross, Charly Seal, Jaylee McEwen in second place and “Emkat Rohannnah,” Emily Carrasco, Katie Gibbs, Hannah Bliss and Rosie Bliss in third place.
The winning men’s teams included team “Carrasco Horseshoeing” members Trevor Carrasco, Josue Madrigal, Jake Ward, Alan Malotte in first; “Carico Lake Men’s” including Austin Iveson, John Filippini, Quaid McKay and Wes Kerr in second and “Norcutt Livestock’s” Clay Norcutt, Chad Sestanovich, Rosco Rhodes and Jesse Norcutt in third.
The winning co-ed teams included “Norcutt Co-Ed” with Clay Norcutt, Lindy Norcutt, Brynn Lehman, Jesse Norcutt in first; “Beto Solis Co-Ed,” including Beto Solis, Malachi Malotte, Miranda Draper, Amanda Draper in second and Alan Malotte, Monel Malotte, Hadley Malotte and Jake Ward in third. Gymkhana rustled the fair grounds from 1 to 5 p.m. The Youth Rough Stock happened soon after at 6 p.m.
The rodeo began at 6 p.m. and brought wonder to crowds. Concert performances began at 9 p.m., providing ambiance and music for guests to enjoy. The crowd was welcomed to dance.
Sunday
The rodeo closed with a Phonda Garaventa memorial ACTRA Team roping, which took place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
