Basketball teams pick up road wins

February 14, 2014 by Eureka Sentinel Leave a Comment

The Eureka County High boys basketball team split a pair of games on the road last weekend.

On Jan. 31, the Vandals traveled to Carlin and earned a 55-39 victory. Josh Plaskett led Eureka with 15 points and Nick Hornberger added 13. Nick Gordon also poured in 10 in the win.

The next day, four Eureka players scored in double figures, but it wasn’t enough as the Vandals fell at Owyhee 68-60.

Trevor Merritt scored a team high 19 points, while Hornberger and Paul Padilla each had 12. Gordon finished with 10.

The boys will hit the road again this week when they play a makeup game at Round Mountain on Thursday. The game was scheduled for last week but was postponed due to weather. The Vandals (8-13, 3-4) return home on Friday and Saturday and will host Wells and Jackpot.

Eureka High Girls

The first place Eureka County High girls basketball team continued its spectacular play with road wins at Carlin and Owyhee over the weekend.

The Lady Vandals (19-2, 7-0) dominated Carlin from the opening tip, winning the game 68-24. The girls nearly repeated the performance the following day when they beat Owyhee 67-34.

The Lady Vandals will join the boys team with a busy week ahead when they play at Round Mountain on Thursday and host Jackpot and Wells on Friday and Saturday.
