Crescent Valley holds Christmas event

December 31, 2014 by Lisa J. Wolf Leave a Comment

1Adell Panning, Senior Center Director and Karen Bowser, Social Activities Coordinator, oversaw the annual Crescent Valley Parade of Lights, Friday, Dec 19. Crescent Valley residents had been advised to have their outdoor Christmas decorations and lights completed by Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. for judging. The fun began at 3 p.m. Friday with Bingo at the Community Center and continued with the parade of Christmas-themed floats from the Crescent Valley Fire Department through town to the Community Center where over 125 people enjoyed a free Christmas dinner and festivities.

Upon arrival each townsperson received a ticket for dinner and a ticket went into a box for drawings for Christmas gifts. A gingerbread house decorating contest challenged the 20+ children and adults at each row of tables to combine their artistry affixing gum drops, candy canes, icing and other Christmas candy to gingerbread houses on their table. Everyone at the winning table received a box of mini-candy canes. Boxes of gifts and prizes sat on one table and another table bore gifts for children in the community bought with a donation from Klondex Mining. Bruce and Linda Harland won the Christmas decorations and lights contest. Cathy Wolf won the ‘Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest.’ A lucky Crescent Valley resident won a weekend at the Nugget and another won a quilt and another won the raffle sponsored by Search and Rescue for a rifle.

Panning in thanking everyone for coming, reminded those assembled that Angie Black had been the one to initiate the event during her tenure as Activities Coordinator.
