The Diamond Mountain FFA Chapter has enjoyed a summer full of new experiences, learning and fun. Throughout these past three months, the Eureka chapter has filled its summer with camps, retreats and more.

In June, FFA members had the opportunity to attend Summer Leadership Camp at Lake Tahoe. State officers led members from all over the state in a four day camp filled with enthusiasm, leadership opportunities and entertainment. Chapter Officer Leadership Training was taught by the state officers to teach the chapter officers their duties and responsibilities.

All FFA’ers were placed into color groups which competed against each other in activities requiring teamwork and concentration. The winning team got to sign the infamous toilet-seat-of-victory.

Workshops put on by past state officers were attended and greatly appreciated by all. Night activities and recreation time proved to be a blast, with volleyball and basketball tournaments, beach time, swing dancing lessons, and highly entertaining lip syncs put together and performed by chapters.

On July 4, Diamond Mountain chapter officers and a few members entered an FFA themed float into the local parade. The float consisted of a trailer full of hay bales, American flags, various FFA decorations, and best of all, enthusiastic FFA’ers.  Candy was tossed to eager people lining the streets. The Diamond Mountain FFA’s float was a big hit.

The 2013-14 Diamond Mountain Chapter officers, their superb advisor Leslie Zimmerman, and Zimmerman’s family, traveled to Cave Lake for the officer retreat on Aug. 5, for a two-day camping trip.

Each officer was expected to create a workshop to present to the other officers. They made goals and discussed ways to improve the chapter.

The officers and Zimmerman bonded over swimming in Cave Lake, exploring spider-filled caves, and taking a long uphill hike. As President Dexter Luby put it, “What an amazing past two days this has been! Spending time with a group of incredible women that I am proud to say are my team mates! Coming together and being able to grow not only as a team but also as individuals. It was a great start to what is going to be an incredible year!
