Diamond Mountain FFA chapter hosts annual spring banquet

June 17, 2019 by Eureka Sentinel Leave a Comment

Members of the Diamond Mountain FFA chapter hosted the annual spring banquet at the Eureka County Opera House on Wednesday, May 8.

This year at the spring banquet, we served a chicken alfredo dinner, followed by awards and achievements from the 2018-19 year, as well as retiring officer addresses and the induction of the 2019-20 officers.

Two different degrees were awarded: The Chapter Degree, which was awarded to eleven hardworking members, and the Honorary Degree which was designated to four adults who have tirelessly supported our organization. The Member of the Year was awarded to Garrett Todd, and the Most Involved Greenhand was Molly Zimmerman.

All the CDE’s from this year at state were acknowledged, and we are happy to announce that the senior Floriculture team got first place and will now be advancing to the national level. The officers from the 2018-19 year retired and the following new officers were inducted: Ilyhia Greely- Historian, Sabre Raine- Sentinel, Kinzie Bradshaw- Reporter, Chris Drayton- Treasurer, Molly Zimmerman- Secretary, Skylar Merritt- Vice President, and Delaney Mears- President.

“The banquet is really a great opportunity to show the community what FFA is about,” said Skylar Merrit.

Agriculture programs prepare students for high-demand careers in cutting edge industries like biotechnology, renewable energies, engineering, food production, and more. They also teach students how to be leaders and prepare them to take on the challenges of the next generation.

The Diamond Mountain FFA Chapter currently has 42_ members. The chapter offers a wide array of CDE’s and LDE’s from Agricultural Mechanics, to Floriculture and Business management, as well as a variety of public speaking events and community service opportunities. The Diamond Mountain FFA Chapter works in tandem with the ag program to develop premiere leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. The ECHS Agriculture Teachers are Mrs. Leslie Zimmerman and Mr. Jared Hyatt.

We wish the Floriculture team luck at nationals, and we hope everyone has a great summer break.
