Ely Man Found Dead After Manhunt

December 30, 2014 by Garrett Estrada Leave a Comment

2A statewide manhunt for longtime Ely resident and accountant Bruce Hendrix, 63, ended on Dec. 12 after Hendrix’s body was discovered anear his truck on a dirt road near Shingle Pass in Lincoln County. Hendrix was discovered deceased, the result of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head according to a press release put out by the White Pine County Sheriff ‘s Office last Friday afternoon.

Local and state police had began looking for Hendrix after he was issued an arrest warrant from the Ely Justice Court on one count of murdering his wife Julia Hendrix and two counts of arson. The sheriff’s office had worked closely with state fire marshal arson investigators to determine that the two fires that damaged Hendrix’s home and accounting business on Dec. 8 had been the result of arson.

The body of Hendrix’s wife had been discovered inside the married couple’s now fire damaged home after the house fire was put out by local emergency services crews. Coroners discovered that Julia Hendrix had died due to a gunshot wound before the fire. The cause of the fire was found to be a flammable liquid that was poured and ignited at both scenes.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office will be handling the coroner case.

Hendrix had operated his CPA office on Aultman Street for over 20 years and had become well known in the community. His wife Julia had worked as a teacher at White Pine High School for many years. She had recently been hired by the Nevada Department of Corrections prison just outside of Ely.

Julia Hendrix was reported to have asked her husband for a divorce just days prior to her death.
