Eureka can’t stop Coleville

September 19, 2013 by Eric Dahlberg Leave a Comment

Eureka High School football coach Fred Minoletti knew his team would be in for another tough game on Friday night when Coleville came to town, he just didn’t know how tough.

Minoletti was aware of the fact that the Wolves did a lot of the same things as the Vandals previous opponent, Virginia City, and was hoping his team could contain the outside a little better in hopes of slowing down their high powered offense.

Despite his teams’ best effort, Coleville could not be stopped and ran away with the game, winning 50-16.

The Wolves, as they normally do, were able to have success both in the air and on the ground. Senior quarterback Seth Huhta only threw the ball 12 times, but three of them resulted in touchdowns. Coleville was equally, if not more impressive when they ran the ball. Running Back Jacob Park ran the ball 14 times for 169 yards and three scores, leading the league in rushing for the week.

Eureka wasn’t able to stop Coleville at all early, and fell behind 28-0 after the first quarter. It wasn’t all bad for the Vandals though as they would go on to score 16 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to make the final score a little closer.

With the loss, Eureka falls to 0-2 on the season while Coleville improved to 1-0. The Vandals now welcome Smith Valley to town for their third straight home game to start the season.
The Bulldogs (1-0) are coming off of their first game of the season, a 56-8 drubbing of Lee Vining.
