Eureka Conservation District is hosting its annual poster contest with the theme, “Home is Where the Habitat is.” In correlation with the National Association of Conservation Districts Stewardship Program, the Eureka Conservation District is seeking three talented winners, local youth from kindergarten through 12th grade, who are able to highlight the importance of different habitats within the local ecosystem through poster art.
Students interested in participating in the poster contest must create poster art centered around the designated theme, incorporating original art with an inspiring conservation message. Artists are permitted to use paint, crayons, colored pencils, charcoal, stickers, paper and other materials. The student must clearly include their name and signature on the back of the poster. It’s strongly encouraged to incorporate research into poster art for the competition.
Posters are due on Oct. 13. Students can return posters to their school’s front office or the Department of Natural Resources, located 701 S. Main Street.
Top-place winners at the local level will be submitted to the state competition. First-place winners will be awarded $50, $30 for second place and $20 for third place. If the poster wins at the state level, it will be entered into the national poster contest, where students win $200 for first place, $150 for second and $100 for third place.
Judging criteria is as follows: 50% on Conservation Message, 30% on Visual Effectiveness, 10% on Originality and 10% on Universal Appeal.
Students attending EES, ECHS, CVES and Duckwater Shoshone Elementary are encouraged to participate and may obtain a poster packet with contest details and poster paper from the school’s office. Homeschooled students and Pine Valley students can visit the Department of Natural Resources, located at 701 S. Main Street, to access poster packets.
