VFW Post 8194 honored veterans, families and volunteers with a dinner and awards ceremony recognizing active members within the community. About 20 veterans and 45 participants in total walked into the Eureka Opera House on Nov. 9. Service flags, memorial statues and banners decorated the building. Eureka County High School students wrote letters of appreciation for veterans to read. There was a table reserved in honor of POWs/MIAs. Nevada State Senator Pete Goicoechea was in attendance as an honored guest.

“We had our largest turnout in years,” shared Senior Vice Commander Doug Dickover. “We had multiple veterans reach out to us after the event, excited the word is getting out to other veterans we didn’t know about yet.”
The awards ceremony recognized members who have been in VFW for at least five years, with two members commemorated for their 38th anniversary.
