After their successful game against Wells in late August, the Vandals took on some out-of-state competition in a faceoff against Arizona’s El Capitan High School. Struggling to find the end zone, the Vandals were shut out for the second time this season, 0-42.
They then made a feisty return to league games, taking on Owyhee a week later. Despite having played a no-win season, the Braves managed to put some offensive numbers up, but their efforts were not enough to match the win-hungry Vandals. The Vandals returned to Eureka with a 52-14 win in the books, their best offensive showing of the season.
Unfortunately, the winning streak didn’t last long. In the closest game they’ve played all season, the Vandals fell just eight points behind Pyramid Lake in their homecoming game last Friday. This was their first league-play loss of the season.
They will now take on the Carlin Railroaders Thursday, Oct. 3. The Railroaders have suffered just a single loss this season, demolishing all other competition, including Pyramid Lake. The Vandals will have their work cut out for them in Thursday’s matchup.
