From left, Eureka’s Breyana Miller-Dubray and Jaecee Lancaster, Jerome, ID, of IHSRA 5th District with their Idaho HS Finals Rodeo awards they earned on June 10.

Breyana Miller-Dubray, a freshman at Eureka County High School has earned a position on the Idaho State National High School rodeo team and will be traveling with fellow teammates to Gillette, Wyo., July 16-22 to compete at the 69th annual National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR) in the Cutting competition.

Breyana competed in cutting, barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying and breakaway roping in Idaho’s 5th District for the 2016-17 season and qualified to compete at the Idaho HS Finals Rodeo held this past week, June 4-10, in Pocatello, Idaho in all of her events except goat tying. She had a great State Finals as a Rookie, coming back in the short go in poles – placing 8th in the Go and finishing 8th in the average; breakaway – placing 7th in the Go and finishing 10th in the average; and cutting – placing 4th in the Go and finishing 4th in the average and overall and earning her spot on the Idaho Girl’s Cutting rodeo team heading to the NHSFR. Breyana’s team mates in the Girl’s Cutting representing Idaho are Zayle Davis – District 4 (State Champion), Correy Finney – District 6 (Reserve Champion), and Jaecee Lancaster, also from 5th District (3rd).

Featuring more than 1,750 contestants from 43 states, five Canadian Provinces and Australia, the NHSFR is the world’s largest rodeo. In addition to competing for more than $200,000 in prizes, NHSFR contestants will also be competing for more than $350,000 in college scholarships and the chance to be named a NHSFR world Champion. To earn this title, contestants must finish in the top 20 – based on their combined times/scores in the first two rounds – to advance to Saturday evening’s final round. World Champions will then be determined based on their three-round combined times/scores.

Again, this year, the Saturday championship performance will be televised nationally as a part of the Cinch Highschool Rodeo Tour telecast series on RFD-TV. Live broadcasts of each NHSFR performance will also air online at NHSRATV.com. Performance times are 7 p.m. on July 16, and 9 a.m. and 7p.m. each day thereafter.

Along with great rodeo competition and the chance to meet new friends from around the world, NHSFR contestants have the opportunity to enjoy shooting sports, volleyball, contestant dances, family-oriented activities, church services sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Cowboys, and shopping at the NHSFR tradeshow.
