Eureka girls capture team title at regional meet

At the 1A North Regional track and field meet at Churchill High School in Fallon, the Eureka girls team won the overall title with a total of 156.5 points. Wells took second place with 122 points and Whittell finished third with 101 points. The boys took ninth place with 32 total points.

Tristan Bircham qualified for this week’s state meet in the shot and discus. He set a personal record in the discus. Garrett Todd qualified in the high jump and triple jump.

For the girls team Isabella Minoletti qualified in the 100 meters, long jump and triple jump, Angelika Townsend in the 400, 800, 1600 and triple jump, Kyra Todd in the 100m and 300m hurdles, Louisa Terhalle in the 300m hurdles, Alia Minoletti in the shot put and Ilyhia Greely in the shot and discus. Also the Lady Vandals 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams.

The 1A State meet is this Friday and Saturday at Desert Oasis High School in south Las Vegas.

A new change in the NIAA rules at the 1A level is allowing the North region to have five qualifiers in each individual event and relay events. The South is limited to only three qualifiers in each event.

The reason for the change was explained as due to the fact that the North has six more 1A schools than the South. The 4A, 3A and 2A will retain the four qualifiers from the North and South in each event.
