Eureka Girls Open Season

The Lady Vandals opened the 2018 softball season having a rough time of it in losing all four games at the Panther Invitational last weekend in Alamo.

On Saturday afternoon, they struggled to get their offense going, getting easily dispatched by the White Pine JVs, 16-1.

The Bobcat pitcher needed only three innings, shortened by the 10-run rule, to get the win. She allowed three hits, one run and struck out five.

Savana Sanders started on the mound for Eureka. She allowed four hits and nine runs.

She was replaced by Cammie Skinner who worked 2-2/3 innings, gave up six hits and seven runs. She was credited with the loss

Jenesis Dominguez was 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the Vandals.

Also on Saturday, Eureka lost to Beaver Dam 18-6. Both teams had only five hits in the game, but the Diamondbacks had a 10-run outburst in the first inning, eight in the second and were not threatened thereafter.

On Friday, in their first game, the Lady Vandals just couldn’t hold up against five-time defending state champion Pahranagat Valley in suffering a one-hit 16-0 shutout.

Morgan Thomas got the only hit for Eureka in the third inning.

Ashlyn Wadsworth was the winning pitcher. She struck out five and walked none.

Sanders the loss the fore Lady Vandals, giving up 13 runs on 13 hits and two home runs. She allowed four hits and three runs before being replaced by Skinner in the third inning,

Also on Friday, Eureka lost 16-0 to league rival Wells. Unfortunately, they got only one hit, by Skinner.

Wells put 11 runs on the board in the second inning.

The teams will meet again, the final game of the league season, April 21 in Wells.

This week, the girls are off, many will be attending the state FFA conference in Reno and Spring break which follows after.

Their next game is a league doubleheader March 31 at Mineral County.
