Eureka’s Megan Damele moves past an Owyhee player in the Lady Vandals 57-48 win Saturday at home. Eureka improved to 12-1 on the season and are now 2-0 in conference play.

The Eureka County High girls played their first basketball games at home this season and picked up a pair of league wins.

Last Friday, the Lady Vandals routed Carlin as they came out on fire to start the game.

“Carlin couldn’t keep up with our varsity players in the first half, as we used a majority of JV players in the second half,” coach Travis Gallagher said. Eureka won easily 60-15 over Carlin to secure its first league win. Katie Damele and Cody Gibbs led the Lady Vandals in scoring with 12 and 10 points respectively.

The following night, Eureka had a much closer game with Owhyee, but came away with a 57-48 win.

“Their were a lot of momentum shifts throughout the game with Owhyee getting within four points multiple times, but the girls played hard and got the win.”

Gibbs was clutch down the stretch going 6 for 6 on free throws in the 4th quarter to help get the league win. Freshman Morgan Thomas led the Lady Vandals with 16 points while Gibbs added 14 of her own.

Eureka is now 2-0 in league and 12-1 for the season.

The Lady Vandals will travel to Wells and Jackpot this weekend for two more league games.
