Eureka girls take second in 7 events at state track meet

Lucky Number 7, at least for the Eureka girls track team. They tied for third place in the team standings with Tonopah, with 77 points, at the 1A State track meet at Foothill High in Henderson. Sierra Lutheran won their fourth consecutive girls title with 144 points.

In the boys meet, Spring Mountain won with 192 points for their third consecutive championship. Eureka was ninth with 14 points.

The Lady Vandals picked up a second place finish in seven events. Katie Damele closed out her high school career with a second place finish in both the 1600 and 3200 meters. She set a new personal record in the 3200 of 12.27.32. And she was only 5/100s of a second behind Elaina Marchegger of Sierra Lutheran in 12.27.27.

Cody Gibbs placed second in the 100m hurdles with a season’s best mark, and second in the 300m hurdles. Alia Minoleti was second in the High Jump and Triple Jump, and Angel Greely was second in the Discus with a new personal record.

On the boys side, Tristan Birchim was sixth in the Shot Put and established a new personal record, placed third in the Discus, and Garrett Todd was seventh in the Triple Jump.

Shot Put – Tristan Birchim, Sixth, 37-6½

Discus – Birchim, Third, 116-04

Triple Jump – Garrett Todd, Seventh, 34-9½

GIRLS

1600 meters – Katie Damele, Second, 5:53.08

3200 meters – Damele, Second, 12.27.32

100m hurdles – Cody Gibbs, Second, 17.09

300m hurdles – Gibbs, Second, 51.05

4×100 relay – Third, 55.15

4×400 relay – Third, 4:38.90

4×800 relay – Fourth, 11:58.29

Discus – Angel Greely, Second, 99-04

High Jump – Alia Minoleti, Second, 4-06

Long Jump – Minoleti, Fifth, 14-01

Triple Jump – Minoletti, Second, 32-4½
