Eureka Lions Club Honored

The Eureka Lions Club is the only service organization in the small rural town of Eureka. The club has participated in the state’s Adopt-A-Highway Program since August of 2002 and was one of the first organizations to receive a 10-year certificate acknowledging their dedication to the program.

Lion Floyd Klindt was one of the original founding members when the Eureka Lions Club was chartered in 1980. He was a retired LA motorcycle cop. According to Michael Mears, “Floyd would often go and patrol” our mile, picking up trash and keeping it clean. Many times when we would organize our seasonal clean-up, we found our mile was already pretty clean due to Floyd’s efforts. After Floyd passed away, the next mile from the fairgrounds to Hwy 278 became available and the Lions Club applied to adopt that mile

“In Memory of Floyd Klindt” for his dedication to keeping our highway clean and his dedication to the Eureka Lions Club.” On June 22, Randy Hesterlee, the Assistant District Engineer for NDOT, presented the Eureka Lions Club with their second certificate for the 10 years they’ve been cleaning in Lion Floyd’s memory. Keeping a stretch of the highway litter free is a very big job and takes dedication from the members of the organizations who participate. The Lions Club has received two of the eight 10 year recognition certificates for the Ely Sub-District. It takes dedication from the Lions Club volunteers to help keep our Nevada Highways beautiful.
