Eureka voters overwhelmingly support Trump’s return to the White House

Eureka County joined voters throughout the country to help elect Donald Trump the 47th president of the United States.

The presidential race was called early Wednesday morning. 

Latest unofficial Nevada results posted by the Secretary of State Thursday afternoon gave Trump and his running mate JD Vance 50.93% of the state’s vote over 47.25% for Democrat Vice Present Kamala Harris and her running-mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. 

In Eureka County, Trump/Vance garnered 87.84% of the vote, compared to 9.91% for Harris/Walz.

Clark was the only county in the state supporting Harris, who held a lead over Trump, 50.29 to 48.01%, in the state’s most populous jurisdiction.

For the U.S. Senate, Democrat incumbent Jacky Rosen pulled ahead of Republican Sam Brown 47.65 to 46.67% in a race still too close to call.

Eureka County supported Brown 80.99 to 10.38%.

Republican Mark Amodei easily won re-election in the U.S. House, Nevada District 2 with 56.20% of the vote over Greg Kidd who garnered 35.48%. 

For State Assembly, District 33, Republican Bert Gurr won re-election over Libertarian Darryl Baber 83.64 to 16.36%.

Republican Marty Plaskett was re-elected as County Commissioner, District 1, defeating Tracey Mellard, 86.46 to 13.54%.

Douglas Dickover was elected School Board Trustee, Seat 1C, over Leonard Fiorenzi, 60.36 to 39.64%. 

For the Crescent Valley Town Advisory Board, Jeremy Rice led with 108 votes, followed by Diana Kersey with 103, Laura Shivers with 86 and Darcey Winkelkotter with 41.

Angela Orr won re-election to the State Board of Education, District 2, 52.76 to 47.24% – despite Eureka County voting the opposite, 55.32% for Davis to 44.68% to Orr. 

On ballot questions, Nevada voters rejected open primaries and rank-choice voting, said yes to repealing sales tax on diapers and amending the state constitution to include abortion rights and voter ID.

Eureka County voted opposite of the state on repealing diaper taxes with 56.49% voting no, as well as adding abortion rights to the constitution with 59.1% voting no.

Ballot Questions:

State Ballot Question No. 1

Shall the Nevada Constitution be amended to remove certain provisions governing the Board of Regents of the Nevada System of Higher Education and its administration of the State University and certain federal land grant funds and to provide additional legislative oversight of public institutions of higher education through regular independent audits, without repealing the current statutory election process or other existing statutory provisions relating to the Board of Regents?

No: 54.67%

Yes: 45.33%

State Ballot Question No. 2

Shall Section 1 of Article 13 of the Nevada Constitution be amended to: (1) revise the description of the persons who benefit from institutions that the State is required to foster and support; (2) replace the term “institutions” with “entities” and (3) add entities for the benefit of persons with intellectual or developmental disabilities to the types of entities that the State is required to foster and support?

Yes: 65.73%

No: 34.27%

State Ballot Question No. 3

Shall the Nevada Constitution be amended to allow all Nevada voters the right to participate in open primary elections to choose candidates for the general election in which all voters may then rank the remaining candidates by preference for the offices of U.S. Senators, U.S. Representatives, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, State Treasurer, State Controller, Attorney General, and State Legislators?

No: 53.76%

Yes: 46.24%

State Ballot Question No. 4

Shall the Ordinance of the Nevada Constitution and the Nevada Constitution be amended to remove language authorizing the use of slavery and involuntary servitude as a criminal punishment?

Yes: 60.39%

No: 39.61%

State Ballot Question No. 5

Shall the Sales and Use Tax Act of 1955 be amended to provide an exemption from the taxes imposed by this Act on the gross receipts from the sale and the storage, use or other consumption of diapers?

Yes: 68.32%

No: 31.68%

State Ballot Question No. 6

Should the Nevada Constitution be amended to create an individual’s fundamental right to an abortion, without interference by state or local governments, whenever the abortion is performed by a qualified healthcare professional until fetal viability or when necessary to protect the health or life of the pregnant individual at any point during the pregnancy?

Yes: 63.84%

No: 36.16%

State Ballot Question No. 7

Should the Nevada Constitution be amended to require voters to either present photo identification to verify their identity when voting in-person or to provide certain personal information to verify their identity when voting by mail ballot?

Yes: 73.39%

No: 26.61%
