Eureka Wrestlers Return to the Mat

November 29, 2018 by Dave Maxwell Leave a Comment

Coach Jeremy Auch welcomes back eight starters from last year’s wrestling team, but only one senior, Garrett Todd. “I think he will go in the range of 138-152 pounds,” he said.

Auch also noted others on the team will be junior Preston Hubbard (152-160). Chris Dolan (145-160), a sophomore, placed third in the state meet last year. Sophomores Wyatt Anderson (138) and Ashton Sanders (126-132) are expecting to have good seasons.

A trio of young freshman are coming onto the varsity squad this year, Auch said. Quaid Filippini (120-132), Ivan Pickard (126) and Sage Borda (106-113). “I think it will be decent year for us. I’ve got five returners and some pretty decent freshman.”

Last season the Vandals earned 17 points in the state 2A-3A championships and Dolan took third place at 145 pounds.

The Vandals open the season participating in the Cody Louk Memorial tournament in Winnemucca Dec. 7-8. “This involves some of the large Reno area schools, too,” Auch said, including Carson, Damonte Ranch, Spanish Springs, Wooster and Sparks. Also participating are Elko and Owyhee.

On Dec. 15 the team has a meet at Pershing County High School in Lovelock but he didn’t mention the name of the event, although it is most likely the Mustang Invitational involving such teams as Douglas, Carson, Sparks, and others including Eureka.

On Dec. 20, the Vandals take part in the Ely Lions Invitational with Battle Mountain, Lincoln County, Independence (Elko), Pahranagat Valley, Tonopah, White Pine and West Wendover.

Auch said the team’s full schedule has not as yet been posted on the trackwrestling.com. website, but he expects to have it posted there as soon as possible. For fans who like to see the results of given meet, this will be the main place to find results of Eureka matches throughout the season.
