Nearly two decades of the annual Christmas Tree Lighting has brought members within the community together to create a special moment ahead of the holiday season. The annual event creates a feeling of joy as the tree lights up for the first time of the season. It also supports the local economy as local businesses stay open for potential Christmas shoppers.
The lighting and Winter Wonderland Parade are slated for Dec. 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. Community members will be serenaded with holiday tunes sung by the Eureka County High School Choir. Guests are encouraged to decorate their side-by-sides, trucks, bikes and trailers and wear festive gear for the parade and spread holiday cheer.
The Christmas tree will shine its lights for the first time this year at 6 p.m. at the fire station, marking a celebration of the holiday season hosted by the ECHS Honor Society. Facility and events coordinator for Eureka Opera House Brenna Rogne shares she intends to implement more traditions as the event continues to evolve to better suit the community. This year, she intends to honor a lifetime resident at the parade and tree-lighting ceremony and have them plug in the tree to start the festive season.
Local shops will also participate through the community shopping evening. Country Cottage will offer chili and hot drinks. 180 N. Main, Eureka Depot and Urban Cowboy will offer various food and drinks.
