FAA awarding $840M in funds for infrastructure at 10 Nevada airports

Officials say 10 airports in Nevada are getting a total of more than $21 million from the Federal Aviation Administration to pay for construction and capacity improvements.

U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao announced this week that Reno-Tahoe International Airport will get more than $14.6 million for runway and taxiway reconstruction and runway lighting upgrades.

Minden-Tahoe Airport will get almost $1.9 million for taxiway construction and Winnemucca Municipal Airport is getting $1.85 million for apron expansion and rebuilding.

Reno/Stead Airport has been allocated $1.26 million and Fallon Municipal Airport is promised $1.1 million to install perimeter fencing.

Airports in Austin, Battle Mountain, Ely, Hawthorne and Silver Springs also are getting grants.

The FAA says the funds also are earmarked for increased safety and emergency response capabilities.
