The Eureka County High softball team needed just two victories over the weekend to go into the regional softball tournament with the second seed and position themselves well for a state championship push, and they got them.
Annette Hayward took the circle for the Lady Vandals against the Coleville Wolves this past Saturday at home. Hayward faced 21 batters, fanning six of those while allowing only two runs.

Offensively, Taylor Anderson hit her second home run on the year with a hard hit ball to right field while CC Brown also hit a a home run to give Eureka’s offense a great outing. The Lady Vandals handled Coleville easily as they won the first game of the double-header 12-2.

Brown pitched the second game against Coleville on Saturday and turned in another winning performance.
She faced 19 batters and dominated by striking out 10 of those batters while giving up only 3 hits and one earned run. The run came off a home run from Coleville’s Jordon Pinochi.

Hayward had an answer though as she fired back with a home run herself in the second inning. Anderson had another great game at the plate as she was 4 for 4.

Eureka controlled the game throughout as they cruised to a 15-1 victory.

The Lady Vandals finished 12-2 in conference on the season and they finished second in their division.

They will take on Whittell in Wells at Noon on Friday in their first game of the regional tournament. The winner will take on the winner of Wells and Coleville who play earlier in the day. The top two teams of the double elimination tournament will advance to the state tournament next week in Las Vegas.
