Lady Vandals Even League Record with Win Over Carlin

October 10, 2014 by Clint Tognotti Leave a Comment

The Lady Vandals improved their league record to 1-1 this past Friday with a dominant showing against the Lady Railroaders of Carlin.

In the best of five game format in high school volleyball, Eureka needed only the 3 games to put Carlin away. Eureka won the match with game scores of 25-11, 25-10, and 25-21 to make quick work of the Lady Railroaders. The strong match by Eureka gave them their first divisional win of the season after losing their division opener the weekend prior to Wells.

Amanda Ketzenberg contributed six kills while Angela Porter added four kills for Eureka against Carlin. Beth Damele set up her hitters with 11 assists, and Annette Hayward added four to lead the Lady Vandals. Damele also led the team with serves and she had 14 successful serves.

Eureka turned around and traveled to Lund on Saturday and continued the impressive play. The Lady Vandals again took only three games to win the match. The scores were 25-15, 25-20, and 25-22. This was not a divisional game, but a win in any fashion will only muster confidence moving forward in the season.

When asked about the Lady Vandals and their two games this past weekend, Head Coach Sherri Wilker said, “We need to learn to stay strong throughout each game as we tend to start strong and then lose our intensity.” She went on to add, “ We have been working hard on our defense and hope to have much better tip-coverage this weekend.”

Mcdermitt will come to town for Eureka’s third divisional contest this Friday night for Homecoming. The games will begin at 3 p.m. at Eureka County High School. This match will determine if Eureka comes out with a losing or winning division record.
