Eureka played Round Mountain and won in 3 straight games. The Lady Vandals made quick work against non-league opponent Round Mountain. The volleyball team at Eureka County High School has had a busy stretch of games and road trips over the past couple of weeks. The Lady Vandals have been racking up wins and a tournament championship during that stretch.

On Sept. 4, Eureka played Round Mountain at home and won in 3 straight games. The scores were 25-12, 25-6, and 25-21. The Lady Vandals made quick work against non-league opponent Round Mountain.

A road trip to Tonopah also had a successful ending as Eureka rolled once again with scores of 25-12, 25-14, and 25-13 all in favor of the Lady Vandals. The three straight games won finished the match in a quick fashion against another non-league opponent.

Sept. 6 was the most memorable of the winning streak as Eureka again beat Tonopah and also beat much bigger Pahrump twice to win the Harvey Memorial Tournament. Eureka had one match loss against Pahrump, but won 2 out of the 3 matches to seal the tourney championship.

Eureka then traveled to Smith Valley this past weekend to face the Lady Bulldogs. The match took four games to complete and all four were closely contested. Smith Valley though took 3 out of the 4 games to win the match. The scores were 25-19 in favor of Eureka, and 25-23, 25-20, 25-22 all in favor of Smith Valley.

The last match that was played was on Sept. 16 in Eureka against Battle Mountain. Eureka lost the match in 3 games with scores of 25-17, 27-25, and 25-16. The Lady Vandals will play their first divisional matches of the 2014 season this Friday at home against rival Wells at 3 and 4 p.m. When asked about her team’s first divisional opponent, Head Coach Sherri Wilker stated, “Wells was the second best team in our division last year and will be a tough opponent.” Wilker went on to add, “they were a young team last year and should have many returning players.”

Eureka will also be looking to get some players back from sicknesses which will hopefully boost their play even more. Being healthy come divisional play will be very important to the momentum and progress of the Lady Vandals Volleyball team.
