Lady Vandals pick up win after break

April 17, 2015 by Clint Tognotti Leave a Comment

4The Eureka County High softball team has had a long layoff with spring break and no games for almost two weeks. The Lady Vandals swept two close games against Whittell on March 28 and played their first game since then this past Saturday, April 11 against White Pine.

The game against White Pine served as a non-league game, but was very important to get the Lady Vandals back in the swing of things.

Strong pitching along with more than enough offense lead to a 8-2 Eureka win over White Pine.

Annette Hayward pitched the first four innings for Eureka as she faced 19 batters, striking out seven Lady Bobcats in the process. CC Brown came in to take over the circle and finish what Hayward started as she mowed down 7 out of the 11 batters she faced to cap a strong pitching combo for the Lady Vandals.

On the offensive side of things Eureka had a few players with strong hitting performances. Heather Lacovara hit a double while CC Brown and Annette Hayward each had a double and triple in the ball game to lead the offensive output for Eureka.

With the important win after a long break, Eureka was scheduled to play Wells on April 14 at home, but the games had to be cancelled due to bad weather. The game will be re-scheduled for later in April, but no definitive date has been selected.

Eureka will try and continue to improve their strong 6-1 overall record with a perfect 5-0 record in league as they will take on Mineral County at home April 18 at 10 a.m. and noon for a double-header.
