LEE H. GRISWALD

Lee H. Griswold a third generation Nevadan, born to Thomas and Coralee (Harbin) Griswold on Jan 3, 1930 in Elko, Nevada, passed away in Reno, Nevada, Jan 31, 2014.  He graduated from Elko High School having been part of the 1948 basketball team which won the first State Championship. Lee spent most of his adult life in Eureka and Carlin, working in agriculture or ag-related fields and retiring from the Nevada Division of Forestry in 1995.

Lee married Patricia J. Aiazzi in Carlin on Sept 12, 1949.

He was active in the Masonic Lodge starting with DeMolay and later serving as Master of Elko Lodge #15, Eureka Lodge #16 and was Past Grand Master of Nevada Grand Lodge, 1972-1973.  He was active in local and state government serving on several boards as well as Mayor of Carlin and twice served on the Carlin City Council. Of these experiences he said, “If I was going to give advice to a kid coming up in politics, I would make it short and sweet.  It’s the philosophy I’ve lived under all my life.  Be honest and tell the truth, because in the end, if you are honest and tell the truth, everything will work out for the best.”

He is survived by his wife, and six children who were his pride and joy: Michel (Pam), Richard (Madeline), Steven (Roberta), Timothy (Judy), Coralee (Don Miller), and Thomas (Diane) Griswold, 13 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren, his faithful dog, Willie; sister-in-law, Helen Griswold and his brother-in-law, George Aiazzi. He was mentor to many, but held special his brother-in-law, Stan Aiazzi, who also survives.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, aunt Ona Harbin Murphy, uncle Guy Harbin, brother, Tom Griswold and grandson, Don Burke.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a. m. on Feb. 8, 2014 at Burns Funeral Home, Elko under the direction of the Nevada Masonic Lodge, a Celebration of Life will follow the services.
