The Nevada Department of Transportation is inviting local officials from rural government agencies to provide input on NDOT’s draft Rural Engagement Plan.
NDOT oversees approximately 4,500 miles of rural highways across the state. The Department’s Rural Engagement Plan outlines the process for coordinating with and gathering input from rural, non-metropolitan local governments such as counties and tribal governments. The plan also outlines opportunities for local rural government partners to provide input in developing NDOT’s long-range statewide transportation plan and State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) in accordance with federal requirements.
NDOT regularly coordinates with rural counties and local agencies across the state in the development of transportation plans and programs. NDOT engages in a continuous coordination process that helps meet statewide needs and provides local representatives with ample opportunities to participate in the transportation planning process.
As described in the Rural Engagement Plan, NDOT uses a variety of methods to consult with rural agencies across Nevada. Examples include the following:
Local Agency Workshops – These events bring local leaders together to discuss agency requests and review NDOT planning initiatives and other analysis.
NDOT/County Leadership Meetings – NDOT visits County Commission meetings to discuss local needs and NDOT initiatives with local elected officials.
County Dashboard – Online resource where members of the public can find information about NDOT investments in each county and local officials can contact NDOT staff directly.
Other Meetings with Local Agencies – NDOT representatives meet with local agency leaders as needed and participate in various project meetings.
NDOT Advisory Committees – Local agency representatives, including the Nevada Association of Counties and the Nevada League of Cities, participate in standing committees such as the Transportation Planning Advisory Committee (TPAC), Freight Advisory Committee (FAC), Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, and Nevada Advisory Committee on Traffic Safety.
