Local tattoo artist set to open Yupik Ink Tattoo Shop in the spring

January 24, 2025 by Miranda Corona Leave a Comment

Local tattoo artist Wyat Pickens is excitedly awaiting the opening of a new tattoo shop with his girlfriend sometime in spring. While the shop is currently being renovated, Pickens is preparing to hold an opening day event with flash sheet tattoos and special deals for custom designs.

After discovering a love for tattoo artistry, Pickens taught himself everything he needed to know when it came to the craft. “I used to like drawing and art as a kid, but until 2020 I didn’t have much interest in art until after learning tattoo methods,” Pickens shared. “I’ve come to love tattooing for the art and learning everyday as I continue to build the Yupik name.”

Hankering for an old school traditional tattoo shop vibe, Pickens desires to create a space for individuals to feel empowered through art and plans to open the shop with his girlfriend and owner of Balance Beam Healing, Josie Hoekenga, who promotes mindfulness and self-improvement.

Pickens has BBP and CPD Certification and is currently in the process of acquiring a business license. After a few years of practice and tattooing different clients with unique art styles and color combinations, he has accumulated a portfolio that displays his skill level, and he eagerly awaits more clientele. He currently practices blackout ink, western styles, lettering, surrealism, illustrative, traditional, various forms of shading and color tattoos. Some of his favorite styles to tattoo include illustrative and shading designs, but he is open to working with customers to achieve the tattoo style they desire.

Stay tuned for the shop’s opening date and events via social media. For access to his portfolio, follow Pickens on Instagram and TikTok at @yupik_ink. Anyone interested in learning more about Yupik Ink or tattoo pricing can text (775) 318-0138 or email yupikinktattoos@outlook.com.
