Logan Elected as New Eureka County Sheriff

November 12, 2014 by Eureka Sentinel Leave a Comment

Eureka County elected a new sheriff, and joined much of the rest of rural Nevada in backing a Republican landslide in state elections.

Keith Logan will be the new sheriff, replacing the retiring Ken Jones. Logan won about two thirds of the vote in Tuesday’s election, beating Shane Cantrell by a margin of 463-225 in countywide voting.

Logan, in his 27th year in law enforcement, has served in the Eureka Sheriff’s Department for nearly five years, most recently as undersheriff. He is a resident of Crescent Valley.

In other local races, Fred Etchegaray beat Michael Rebaleati by a 378-316 vote for County Commission District 2, while Mike Sharkozy won the District 3 commission slot by a margin of 416-267.

School board seats went to Robin Hicks, who beat Chuck Bice 511-169, while Darla Baumann beat Jamie Osburn 464-204.

Eureka voters helped Adam Laxalt become state attorney general, favoring him by a 475-111vote over Democrat Ross Miller, and gave Congressman Mark Amodei more than 75 percent of the vote in his re-election race. Eureka’s totals in statewide races reflected the Republican wave, though in most cases Eureka favored the GOP by an even wider margin.

Eureka had one of the highest turnouts of any Nevada county in the election, with 703 out of 880 registered voters casting ballots, a rate of 79.9 percent. Of those, 314 voted either early or by absentee ballot, while 389 voted on Election Day.
