Nevada Northern Railway Reaches Milestone

The Nevada Northern Railway Museum recently broke 250,000 riders on its historic trains this fall, drawing visitors from around the world.

The museum, considered one of the best preserved and most original examples of an historic American railroad, offers a variety of passenger train rides and events on its century-old steam engines and other rolling stock dating back to its copper mining roots.

“Carrying over a quarter million passengers in this remote corner of Nevada validates the dreams, hopes and hard work of the people who started this museum rail yard 30 years ago,” said Mark Bassett, director of the museum. “It’s really amazing to see people travel far and wide to our museum.”

The museum will celebrate its 30th anniversary in May, 2017. The railway dates back more than a century when it connected one of the largest copper mines in North America to the transcontinental railroad to the north.

Unlike many train museums, the Nevada Northern Railway offers acres of an authentic operating rail yard to explore. Visitors can explore hands-on experiences with a variety of excursions and events from its popular Be the Engineer program to a memorable family oriented Polar Express holiday ride.
