Amy Jensen, one of the people who organized a petition to recall Eureka County Sheriff Jesse Watts after an investigation into the sheriff claimed he had allegedly made false statements accusing a Eureka resident of sexual assault, posted on Facebook the petition had gained 227 signatures in its first 45 days.
The Nevada Secretary of State Recall Guide states that petitions for recall must gain “25 percent of the voters who voted in the state, county, district, or municipality, which the public officer represents, at the election in which he/she was elected.”
Jensen wrote in her post, “We have already reached the required amount of 174 signees that voted in the June 2022 Primary but will continue to gather signatures until October 21, 2024, which is the end of our 90-day period allotted to circulate the Petition to Recall Sheriff Jesse Watts.”
