A meeting was held Nov. 18 to discuss the progress of a proposed Boys & Girls Club in Eureka County. Present at the meeting were the group of local parents who initially spearheaded the project, representatives from the local mines, the Eureka County juvenile probation office, the local schools, Eureka County Commissioner Chairman Rich McKay, the Eureka County Public Works Department and the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows president and CEO Mike Wurm and staff.

At this point in time, initial renderings of the proposed buildings have been presented. They are not the final drafts. Members of the project are also waiting on a final number from the contractor for building costs. The projected construction start date is spring 2025. The anticipatory opening date is spring 2026. Building components under consideration include a 4-H room, a community center, an Early Learning Center (daycare), an emergency response facility and some type of community gym.
Although initial progress has been made in bringing a Boy & Girls Club to the Eureka community, the plans have yet to be finalized. The project will still need substantial community support to reach funding goals.
