The Raine family gathers in the dairy and produce section’s of their Raine’s Market superstore on North Main Street in Eureka. Aug.15 marks the one-year anniversary of the grand opening of the new location.

According to owner/manager Scott Raine, their new store in Eureka is a “revolution in retail.”

The 35,000 square foot store celebrates its one-year anniversary Aug. 15.

Scott said after 43 years in the same location, on Aug. 15 last year, Raine’s Market moved into a new facility on 7.68 acres at 901 North Main Street.

“We have quadrupled the retail business in Eureka all into one building.”

Also included is an Ace Hardware store and the Eureka branch of Nevada State Bank. A large lighted parking area is available for customers and truckers.

The market features fresh produce, dairy products, meats, cold beer, hard liquor, wine, frozen foods and ice, along with grocery items. A new deli features sandwiches, fresh-bakery goods, and hot meals.

Ace Hardware offers electrical, plumbing, paint, livestock supplies and farm and ranch needs. For the sportsman, ammunition, guns, and other sporting goods are also available. There is also an 8,000 square foot covered garden and lumber section.

Raine said new store has been received well by the community.

“The hardware business has gone up a lot, and we’re getting a lot of people from the outlying areas who didn’t used to ever come in here, such as from Smoky Valley, Austin, and Round Mountain.”

He said if the store doesn’t have what you need in stock at the time, they will special order it, including case lot groceries items.

He adds, “We also offer UPS package shipping, hunting and fishing licenses, gift cards, money gram service, even tuxedo rental for those real special occasions. And we are the U-Haul rental outlet for Eureka.”

Raine’s Market is open May 1 to Nov. 1, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 9-6 on Sunday, then from Nov.1 through May 1, 9 to 7 Monday-Saturday, 9 to 6 on Sunday.

Raine’s parents, Robert and Lee, bought out Kitchen Brothers Market on Main Street in 1973. They doubled the size of the store to about 5,000 square feet in 1979 when they bought a soda fountain that was next door as well as adding an addition on the rear.

Originally a meat market, then a grocery store, since about 1910, Raine said the building was constructed sometime in the 1870s.

“The old building had a lot of problems with it,” he said, “And it had always been too small, so I decided we needed to become larger. Eureka has grown a lot in the past 20 years. Plus there was no decent hardware store in town and we wanted to expand in that direction. Nevada State Bank also needed a better place, so they came with us also, including their 24-hour ATM.”
